Gene Wells

Gene Wells passed away on March 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Kensett, Arkansas. He entered life on July 9, 1945, in Searcy Arkansas to Marion Wells and Doris Turnbow Wells.

He is a 1963 graduate of Kensett High School. He worked for many years in the auto parts industry. After that, he worked at Parson’s Wholesale Florist for twenty-five plus years.  His customers became his friends and he had them all over the state.  In 2016, he went to work for ASU-Searcy as a part-time assistant in power sports.  His students loved him.  He would be starting his ninth year there.

He was a coin collector and loved to work in the yard and piddling with old motors. He had a servant’s heart and during the summer would mow the church for his family and for friends. He attended First Baptist Church in Kensett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Barbara Wells, who he spoiled rotten. They truly were soulmates. He is also preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Carrol Robertson.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Jean Wells and Amy Butler, and son, Todd Wells and wife, Leslie. One sister-in-law, Beverly Robertson, three brother- in-law, Robin Hopper, wife Donna, Jerry Hopper, wife, Madelyn and Terry Hopper and wife, Lee Ann. Grandchildren, Riley Wells, Laken Butler, Isom Wells and wife Emily, Hannah Wells, and Rickie Baker and the expected great grandchild, Sawyer Wells.

Nothing meant more to him than his family. He loved his children and grandchildren more than life. If you ever met Gene, he became your friend for life. He was a man among men. He loved his God with all his heart.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church (old building) in Kensett, Arkansas from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Interment at Kensett Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Isom Wells, Ron Snyder, Bruce Driggers, Gene Morris, Doug Lackey, and Russell Robertson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Robin Hopper, Jerry Hopper, Terry Hopper, Jack Stiles, Paul Farley and Patrick Allen.
